My nephew was very proud of his new Surfboard.
The board was built, owned, and used by a famous local shaper, builder, and surfer. Props to anyone that can identify the local legend from his logo.
This is just a single strobe on a single bird, with the flash bounced off the ceiling for a softer light. We are separated from the background by chance, and on purpose. … By chance, in that the room has four sides, two of which are twice as close as the wall I chose. … On purpose, I chose the far wall so that the light from the flash would fall off appreciably, leaving the subject well lit, and the background about two stops darker than the subject.
Why do I even mention the distance to the back wall? I have the source light on my person, and the inverse square law says that light will fall off from the source like this. … When you double the distance from the source to the subject, you cut the light to one fourth the amount of light. … So I knew how much the light would fall off between the subject bird, and the subject background wall.

Where do most of my Facebook profile images come from?
Self portraits, 🙂 Yes. We all do them. …
Often, I have to be somewhere other than at my computer working, and other than shooting elsewhere. … Just waiting, waiting for anything, Godot, an appointment. … Whatever.
So I grab my little iPhone, and shoot a few images at arms distance, and then I play. I have almost 120 iPhone applications that are dedicated to image manipulation, after the shoot editing. It is a kind of digital playground. …
After I play with all the tools on the iPhone, quite often I find a way to use a semblance of the effects on my real images.

One evening, in San Diego, there was an art reception for Walter Redondo at Meze, in the Gaslamp District.. Part of the evenings entertainment included a Belly Dancing group.
I just love the way this dancer stands, with her hair clinging to the perspiration on her beautiful neck. To me, this image is of a very powerful, and proud, woman who is working her body and loving her life.
It looks incredibly hot!

Do not mistake me, I love San Diego, but San Diego has so many more locations than shooting across the bay, It has some iconic structures, besides the normal skyline.
I had been to this location before, in the daytime. … The San Diego Trolly has a five-dollar day pass that is good for the entire trolly system. You can get on and off as frequently as you wish. So every once in a while I will get a day pass and go for a ride, getting on, and off, all around the city, as far south as San Ysidro, and as far east as Santee. … Running through Old Town, Downtown, San Diego State. … All kinds of cool locations. On one of those trips, I shot the city from this location, and I fell in love with the tracks, and the overhead wires.
I already had cool standard shots of the fireworks, Link to cool standard shots. And I already had the best shots of the Fireworks malfunction from last year. Link to the fireworks malfunction. So, this fireworks time, I thought I would try something different.
And this is what I got.
Now, we have a beautiful little Jordan, the newest member of my extended family.
Black or white? One or the other? … There are conflicts that can only be settled by a single choice. … Work or life? Work or life?
I have never really been able to sacrifice my work life for my family life. Work has always been more important. It brings in money. It gives me the satisfaction of a job well done. I can control my work life. … There is no way to control family life. It is chaotic because it is filled with people of differing goals. … Like little Jordan, his goal was to join the rest of us on this planet when he wanted to come, not because his timing fit my work schedule.
Sometimes, work is life. And sometimes, work is the antithesis to life.
Repeatedly in my life I have sacrificed the family, more times than I can count, but not anymore. Thank you, baby Jordan.

Hey. … I’ll bet some of you are connected on Facebook! And some of your connections are groups of like minded people for whatever like mindedness ideas you have. … 🙂
Only a Page/group administrator can publish a cover image for the page/group. But, we can all put images up there for the administrator to use for cover art. …
Click on the thumbnail to the rignt, and you will be able to read the directions. ->
This is a little tutorial I put together for a group I am a member of. Now, we are all starting to put up cover images, and we expect the administrator to change the image as our administrator sees fit. But, at least, we have given her/him a choice.

Double Dare
by Jack Foster Mancilla, July, 2013
I’ll double down the double dare,
and tell you how much I like your hair.
But first, your eyes, I love your eyes.
Blue they are, a full sky surprise.
Ass, and breasts, and waist, to boot,
a laughing chortle, what a hoot,
but back to your hair, and the double dare.
Above, and below, I love your hair.
