Scrips Pier – Torry Pines – And North January 28, 2019 at 03:22PM

This is shot from Mount Soledad, on the final Sunday of the 2019 Farmers Open golf tournament. … The green, just ablove the clifs to the right is Torry Pines Golf Course. … This is a very detailed stitch of twelve full frame Sony a7r ii images using the Sony 100-400 GM lens with the Sony 1.4 tele-converter, but only using an effective length of 269mm.

See it larger here, in my Flickr Photostream: https://flic.kr/p/QH3pZg

I know you will not be able to see this online, but you can see the landing gear and the prop of the little speck airplane directly above the middle of the Pier, and above the mountains. And, you can easily count the people on Blacks Beach, just below the cliffs.

This is the airplane that looks like a tiny piece of dirt in any onscreen image.

Mourningcloak January 22, 2019 at 04:57PM

The common name of this species has been spelled in a variety of ways– "Morning Cloak", "Mourning Cloak" and "Morningcloak". The approved standardized common name (established by the Entomological Society of America) is none of these, but rather "Mourningcloak".

Medium-large butterfly, brown-black on dorsal surface with wide yellow borders. A row of blue spots occurs adjacent to the yellow border.

The Bell Tower in Balboa Park, San Diego, just as the fog was rolling in. It had been a beautiful day, just after the rain.

All the Coronados January 16, 2019 at 11:21PM

In the forground is the San Diego mainland, then the Coronado Bay Bridge from the mainland to Coronado Island in San Diego which is not really an island, it is connected to the mainland from Imperial Beach, California to the south. And, in the background are the real Coronado Islands, which are part of Mexico. I had to shoot this from inside the car, through the front windshield.
