The Writers Group

This is a great little group of very creative people, writers all.

This evening, I was thoroughly entertained by everyones writings. … Jill set some tasks and we followed through. I was totally surprised at the turns of the minds of creative people, how they bent the task to their choices.

So here is an image of some creative people.

And here is a sample. …

Tick. Tick. Tick.

Uncomfortable pause.

As I lay abed, wanting to say something to her, wanting to open my mouth and tell her. …

Tick. Tick. Tick.

Looking across the dark, at the green face of the analogue clock with its second sweep moving so slowly, I know the morning will bring pain. … If it ever gets here.

I smell her next to me. I feel her warmth.

Tick. Tick. tick.

Without thinking, as I start to slide into sleep, I reach to feel the small of her back.

Tick. Tick. Tick. …

Dammit!

Alone, still alone, and awake.

Moving through the house, I grab clothing permeated with the smell of her, just to hold it close to my face, and pretend the warmth of my breath is the warmth of her flesh, as I inhale memories of her.

Rummaging around in the kitchen, Coffee? She liked her coffee in the small cups with the pink roses, one sugar, and blonde. This cup has her lipstick still on it.

Looking through the music, I see her songs because she always was at this machine. I do not want to hear them, but do not want to throw them away.

Wandering, touching traces, naked still, back to bed.

Morning will surely come.

Tick. Tick. tick.

Walking on the Hay

Jenivive and I went around and shot some images. There were so many images I enjoy out of the day.

I really love all the images we shot while clambering around on the huge stack of bailed hay. The color of her hair just takes my breath away.

I really look forward to our next chance to do something like this again.

For A Moment, She Looked My Way

Sometimes, when I am wandering around shooting images, a face just jumps out and says, “Howdy.” This face did just that. She looks so comfortable surrounded by suitors.

These images were shot for April Game, and the San Diego Fine Art Society, at the Hollywood Glamour Ball that was hosted at the Anthology in San Diego.

The Gentle Smile

I have this friend, she is very smart, and she is beautiful.

As I look at this image, I try to imagine what one very special person a hundred years from now will think, when they are looking so deeply into the eyes of their grandmother when she was young, before she accomplished all that she did.

Standing in the desert, looking through a window, into the eyes of tomorrow.

Three Young Women – Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos

I like the light of evenings, just after sunset. … Actually, this is quite a while after sunset, and very dark. In this light between night and day, the three fates, Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos, can be seen in these three young women.

This location is Chula Vista, and the power plant in the background will be taken offline and replaced by a newer unit. … As it sits, I love the lights in the background.

And the young women definitely light up the twilight.

Dancers

This is another image from the San Diego Fine Art Society’s Hollywood Glamour Ball.

In this image, the dancers are moving at a pace far beyond the pace of mere mortals. They are the Dancers. Twisting, spinning, jumping, moving, in ways most of us can only remember as a child.

Dancers lift the spirits by showing us what we could accomplish if only we tried. … I laugh a little at that statement, because it is not really true. We only imagine it is true. That concept of being able to dance is just like people thinking they are photographers because they have a good camera.

Dancing, and any other art, takes time, and dedication, and a gift of innate adeptness.

Turning a Page

“Moving on,” “Turning a Page,” “Times change,” What is happening today, is not yesterday.

It could be time for a good read, or it could be time to put to good use what we have already read.

For me, I study life in my images, and try to capture tiny moments that tell a story. Like I used to teach my students, “When writing a story, each sentence, paragraph, image, whatever is part of the story, must be complete in and of itself, it must have a beginning, a middle, and an end, so that the reader, or the viewer loses nothing if they move on to something else.”

So, today I am making myself take those statements more seriously to heart. … From today, I will strive to make every image story timeless, and complete. … Yet, I will also strive to ask my viewers, with my works, to want to revisit my visions.

That is my version of giving the audience what they want, while having them also, wanting more.

Moving on, but come back tomorrow.

Women, Of Two Ages

It is cold today, even as the sun shines without clouds it is still cold. I look towards the summer when the beach is populated again. When people blossom out of the whole cloth of winter, and toast their bodies in the warmth of the sun.

In California, cold is relative, and relatively speaking, not very cold at all. … Still, I wear a jacket.

Pondering Beauty

Spring in the desert of Southern California is full of beautiful things.

This particular Friday evening, was no exception when I went for a ride with a friend to the desert. Warm winds moved the branches, and hair, but did not chill the body. It was evening, and the sun was very low, creating long shadows, and a little later, as the sun dropped behind the mountains, no shadows at all.

I have several favorite images of the evening, but I always come back to this image of Jenivive looking at this large, and beautiful Ocotillo.

DeTour Salon – Encinitas, California

I used to live in Leucadia, Solona Beach, Del Mar, and a couple other places along the coast. One of the places I worked was “Beach And Town Liquor,” a store in Encinitas. So whenever I am coming from somewhere North, towards home in San Diego, I take the beach route, Pacific Coast Highway, old 101, just to look at my old haunts.

This evening I noticed a very pretty addition to Encinitas, next to the place where I used to work. The new place is The De Tour Salon, in Encinitas. I stopped and hauled out some camera gear and took a couple shots of Encinitas. This image is one of the Salon.

The Salon was using a different image that I shot that evening for their Facebook page.

Kat on a Cannon

This is Kat, on a cannon in central area of Old Town San Diego.

This is one of several shoots of beautiful women, who could not enjoy a day like this day was. A warm, beautiful day, walking around in the park with two great women, Kat and Connie, laughing and having a good time.

This was a test of a new lens. I was testing my 85mm f1.2 lens. It turned out be be an excellent lens!

I would do it again. 😉

Dancing at the Lucky Star

Every once in a while, some friends and I go to dinner at the Lucky Star Seafood Restaurant, in San Diego, for dinner and a dance.

I do not know how often they have dancing, but we go on Fridays, and they have always had dancing on Fridays. …

This is just one picture of the most recent visit.
