This evening he was trying Street Photography, and using Periscope. You can watch him as he learns how to approach people on the street. All the while he is teaching us about some other aspects of photography.

Capturing the Canvas in a Photograph – A Lecture

As you can see by this flyer, I will be giving a lecture on the tools, the techniques, and the post production, of photographing canvas artwork for use in other mediums.

I do want to be very clear here. If you take your art seriously, I want you to know that real photographers take their art as seriously as you take your art. … What does that mean? It means that the photographer has put as much work in mastering his art, as you have in mastering yours.

Still, this lecture will be a comprehensive overview of all things related to copy work. So comprehensive; in fact that anyone with the tools and the patience should be able to shoot their own works for some secondary uses.

Sweet Perspiration

One evening, in San Diego, there was an art reception for Walter Redondo at Meze, in the Gaslamp District.. Part of the evenings entertainment included a Belly Dancing group.

I just love the way this dancer stands, with her hair clinging to the perspiration on her beautiful neck. To me, this image is of a very powerful, and proud, woman who is working her body and loving her life.

It looks incredibly hot!

Walter Redondo – Artist

This past Thursday evening, Alexander Salazar Fine Art brought Walter Redondo, and his art to the Zanzibar Cafe. The art remains on the walls. … Pop on down for a cup-o’-Joe and a bite to eat, while you check out Walter’s art. You will have a good evening in the San Diego Gaslamp district.

The evening was filled with snacks, a little wine, and many interesting people. Walter brought his family. They were wonderfully happy, taking it all in.

Michael Carini at Alexander Salazars Whitebox.

A couple nights ago Michael Carini presented his large set of pieces in the Alxender Salazar Whitebox Gallery for one night only. This is images from that night.

This is a quote from the notification of the evenings event.
“”Regenaissance (Polyversikube)” is a nine canvas polyptych conceptually inspired by the principle elements of fractals, the Golden Ratio, and a Rubik’s Cube. The name “Regenaissance” is an abstract composite derived from the words Renaissance (meaning “rebirth”) and Genesis (meaning “the beginning”). Presented in a 3 x 3 structural format, each of the nine components can be moved, rotated, and rearranged so that any side of any element can connect to any side of any of the other eight pieces. The result of the calculated configurations is a broad and almost limitless spectrum of orientations and variations with which to play; 95,126,814,720 to be exact.”

The pieces are being moved to a single location in San Diego. I will provide an exact address, as soon as I am 100% positibe of the location.

Tonight, I am going to the Graphite Social – Museum of the Living Artist – San Diego Art Institute, in Balboa Park.

I went to one of their events in January.

Stage Left Wall

This is the Stage Left Wall of the White Box Contemporarynart gallery in San DIego. Alexander Salazar, is the owner of the gallery. This is the way the Stage Left wall looked during his birthday party.

It was a costume party based on Porn Stars of the ’70’s. … This is just one wall out of the gallery, but the gallery has some fairly cool looking men and women. The guest of honor was Ron Jeremy!

This was just a quick image, before Gustavo Romero’s concert on the 15th of July. It was a great program of DeBussy, and Gershwin.

He has two more concerts at the Neurosciences Institute Auditorium in La Jolla, on the 22nd, and the 29th of July, 2012. … If you like great pianists, these concerts are not to be missed. … I’ll see you there!

After the Sunset

Let us speak of sunsets and the time just after the sun has gone. Here is one of those images. …

Usually, I like clouds to grab the light from the sun as it slips over the horizon and out of my view, but it lights the remaining, high altitude, clouds very nicely. … On this evening, there were no clouds. I was a little disappointed for the nonce, because I always think about what I am planning to shoot before I head out to shoot. … The weather chose to ignore my planing, and the sky remained cloudless. …

Still, I looked at the sky, and what was there, and I thought it beautiful.

Pink in La Jolla

Jaz Cook, and her partner, hired me to shoot some images for their real estate business. She really wanted some images for their online presence. … We shot those, and they were very happy with them. We actually shot several times for several different looks. … But this image?

For this image, I had the lighting units there to shoot some portraits, and I love colors. … 😉 … So, in the moments between the real work, we played a little.

With the La Jolla sun banging against the empty La Jolla home, and streaming through the windows of a room with an ocean view and filled with mirrors, I gelled the units with a single color, and banged back.

The Alexander Salazar Fine Art Gallery – A History of Sorts – 48 openings.

For almost a year, I have been shooting events for Alexander Salazar, for his Fineart gallery at the corner of 7th and Broadway, and at the Contemporary White Box gallery, between Broadway and “C” street, also on 7th avenue, and most recently, his exhibit space in La Jolla. … Inadvertendtly, the collection of galleries create a reverse chronological history of those events.

These events include Dancing Downtown, his one year anniversary party, and his White Birthday party downtown. They also include events at the Hilton Bayfront hotel.

You can go and meander through the past year, and you can find all the events that you attended, by name and by date.

Fred Briscoe at Alexander Salazar Contemporary Exhibit space in La Jolla

I shot this yesterday evening. I am posting it right now because, this evening, February 04, 2012, at the Alexander Salazar Fineart Contemporary Exhibit space in La Jolla, Fred Briscoe will be in attendence.

You can meet him, and ask about his creative process concerning general information, or the particular pieces on display. He works in stone and various metals.

And, he is a very nice man.

(Addendum 20120206) By the way. I had met Fred a couple years ago when I was shooting for the San Diego Fine Arts Society’s creator, April Game. The San Diego Fine Arts Society has metamorphosed into artpulse, and April Game is the Executive Director.

Looking Towards the Convention Center

I love living in San Diego, and I love shooting for Alexander Salazar Fineart galleries. Shooting for Alexander gets me out and about to different locations ad interesting times. I can go a little early, and wander home a little later, and the opportunities for catching a cool moment abound.

For example, I was shooting Alison Van Pelt evening at the Bayfront Hilton. – Please check out those links if you wish. – And that very evening gave me the opportunity to shoot this twilight image of Down Town San Diego.

The Judgement

Saturday, the second of April, I shot an event for Alexander Salazar. It was the first year aniverssary of his gallery. It was a great event for a party, and the event was also a charity auction, raising money for children.

This is an image of a woman looking at one of the images. The image was eventually bought by the man on the far right, but I just love the image of this woman standing in judgement.

Hand of a Graffitist

Graffito is all over the world. The earliest forms are found on rocks, and in caves. All graffiti are put in their places by the hands of humans. What do they, the creators, see? What do they see when they spit colors across their hands placed on the wall of a cave when they move their hands away and see the void in the color where their hands were just moments ago? Do they look into the future and see the shadows of their descendants looking backwards through time, with the imagination to see into the eyes of the human creator? Do they exchange quantum moments of entanglement?

I hope so. It is what I see. It is what I strive for in my photos.

Jean Guillou – A Composer and a Man

I love performers, performance art, musicians, artists. Jean is all the above as well as, an author, a teacher, and a composer.

I was so incredibly lucky to be able to work with Jean, through The Snapshots Foundation, for several days. In those days, I had the pleasure to watch Jean teach several Master Classes in a couple locations with beautiful Organs, and wonderful students. Watching him teach with as much passion as he performed was very warming, as you could see the admiration in the eyes of the students for the man, and in the eyes of the man, you could see his historical perspective as he worked with the future. It was amazing.

Two Women at Tea

Truth be told. … I like people. And I really like these two people.

In this image, we have Kat and Connie sitting at tea. … I do have a little bit of a crush on Connie, but who wouldn’t? Kat already has a partner. …

This day was a mixed bag of locational disappointments. Things did not go as planed, but we did the best we could.

Købman the Magician

People collect interesting things. … I just love this man, sitting in his domain, among all the things he has chosen as having value.

The circumstances of each acquisition captures my imagination as I look at each item in this image. Where did he see this item first? When he picked it up, was there a little glint in his eye, or was it just a business question?

And I love the little “Antiques ->” sign with the arrow pointing at the man. And, I get a kick out of the little, “etc.” sign that sits above his head like a thought bubble in a comic book.

The Heart of Vulcan

Ironwork has always fascinated me. Look at the concentration on this man. Although you cannot see his eyes, you can see that nothing else exists for him. … He is living in that point of electric arc that point of hot fusing metal. His entire body is focused on creation.

Ocean Beach Street Fair

This is what the Ocean Beach Street Fair looks like from the end of the Ocean Beach Pier, looking inland. This day was wonderfully warm, but not hot. And we were at the beach, which is a nice place to be.

The day of the street fair was the kind of Southern California days we think are year-round, but the last few days have been locked into June Gloom types of overcast days.

I hold a Fourth of July drink on the third of July, in toast, “Here is looking forward to the absence of June Gloom!”
