The Judgement

Saturday, the second of April, I shot an event for Alexander Salazar. It was the first year aniverssary of his gallery. It was a great event for a party, and the event was also a charity auction, raising money for children.

This is an image of a woman looking at one of the images. The image was eventually bought by the man on the far right, but I just love the image of this woman standing in judgement.

The entire gallery of the images can be seen here.

Woman in the Grass

I like people. They are fun. They have a life of their own. And one of the greatest things that I get because I am a photographer is that I get to share some time with people that I like.

This is a friend. We walked around an island with my dog on a nice winter day in San Diego, between the winter rains of January 2011.

We spoke of hopes and desires for our tomorrows, and we spoke of times gone by. We shared a very nice day.

Blue Heat

One of my nighttime San Diego excursions brought shivers to my body. I know that the kinds of temperatures in San Diego are so much more humane than the temperatures when I lived in Denmark, or my friends in Montana, or even in Julian, which is just a few miles up the hill from here. Still, for me it was cold.

I felt the heat before I saw the heater. Walking down the street, the warmth came to my face, and as I came closer, the warmth came slowly to my body. Ah, the respite was quite welcomed.

On this New Years Eve, I wish you warmth and good company.

The Chef

Last weekend, I was invited to an event that was wonderful. The Black Label Table – Underground Supper Club had their second evening of fine foods, fine people, fine wines, and all in a place that is not a restaurant.

That was part of the ambience. It took place in a loft where the food was freshly prepared by two wonderful chefs with a penchant for the unique. The evenings meal was based on Momofüko in New York City. Living in San Diego makes Momofüko a little bit far to travel for a leisurly evenings meal. This was out of the park!

Morning Coffee

One of the first things to be done in the morning, besides letting the dogs outside, is to fix the morning coffee.

As you can see, the early morning sun is cascading through the kitchen window, across the sugar, the coffee, the coffee pot, and the toaster, while my cup sits at the ready, awaiting the double sized portion of brew required for filling.

Hibiscus in the Morning

Happy Thanksgiving. I am happy for many fine friends and fine things.

This is a morning Hibiscus flower in the back yard.

Pacific Beach Sunset

Sunsets have always grabbed my attention. Many people see them as signaling the end of the day. For me, they are the bringers of the night, but more important, they open my eyes.

Sounds a little silly, but, the night is full of many amazing things to see and hear. There are sounds, stars, the moon, lights, living things, almost all of which, can only seen at night.

The night sky opens our minds to the immensity of the Universe. As the sunset colors fade through twilight, and afterglow, the distances of the Universe open the consciousness for those that gaze upon the deeps. The very closest thing we can see at night in the sky, is the 238,857 miles away moon, and we can see way beyond that. The most distant object visible to the naked eye is M31, the Andromeda Galaxy, which is about 2 million light-years distance.

In between those two objects is a huge space filled with untold, and unimaginable, objects. That huge space is only a minuscule portion of the Universe.

How can looking at such things not open our minds?

Racenes of Nodding Flowers

I wanted to shoot something for the 10-10-10 day. I got busy doing some other things and did not get to go out into the world and shoot something that illustrated the day.

But, I did have this flower laying around on the tenth day of the tenth month in the 2010th year of the modern calendar. …

So here is my visual ode to that specific day.

Boys of the Sun

This was a wonderful evening. These boys had spent the evening dancing across the surface of the sea with the wind and the surf. They had sat on their boards, watching the horizon, looking for any wave that caught their eyes. It did not have to be the perfect wave, the moment was perfect sitting on the gently rolling swells, only occasionally speaking with each other.

Even now, as they leave the sea, walking beside each other, they spoke not a word. The rhythm of the surf breaking against the pilings of the pier, and the call of the gulls, was all that could be heard. The boys of the sun were on their way forward, leaving their love behind, to rejoin common man.

Jean Guillou – A Composer and a Man

I love performers, performance art, musicians, artists. Jean is all the above as well as, an author, a teacher, and a composer.

I was so incredibly lucky to be able to work with Jean, through The Snapshots Foundation, for several days. In those days, I had the pleasure to watch Jean teach several Master Classes in a couple locations with beautiful Organs, and wonderful students. Watching him teach with as much passion as he performed was very warming, as you could see the admiration in the eyes of the students for the man, and in the eyes of the man, you could see his historical perspective as he worked with the future. It was amazing.

Woman in Black with Red

It is hard for me to say anything particular about this image. I just like it.

Two Women at Tea

Truth be told. … I like people. And I really like these two people.

In this image, we have Kat and Connie sitting at tea. … I do have a little bit of a crush on Connie, but who wouldn’t? Kat already has a partner. …

This day was a mixed bag of locational disappointments. Things did not go as planed, but we did the best we could.

Theatres Eye

I have gotten really lucky to shoot some images for the Snapshots Foundation. It has taken me to several wonderful locations where I get a chance to combine some of my theatrical history and my photographic talents, in my quest for images of historical value.

This is one of those images. When you look at it a certain way, it is an eye. It is an eye seen from the furthest point away from center stage, where the minds eye of the audience can see the eye of the theatre.

Købman the Magician

People collect interesting things. … I just love this man, sitting in his domain, among all the things he has chosen as having value.

The circumstances of each acquisition captures my imagination as I look at each item in this image. Where did he see this item first? When he picked it up, was there a little glint in his eye, or was it just a business question?

And I love the little “Antiques ->” sign with the arrow pointing at the man. And, I get a kick out of the little, “etc.” sign that sits above his head like a thought bubble in a comic book.

Catch A Falling Star And Put It In Your Pocket

After a quick look through about fifteen percent of the images I shot last night, this image jumped into my eyes, and I thought I would share it.

I do have many more images of meteors streaking across the sky in the fifteen percent of the images that I have looked at, but most of them are about the brightness of a medium bright star, this one is not; it is brighter.

Time Stars

Just a reminder, this evening, and tomorrow evening, will be the peak of this years edition of the Persied visitors from space. The Perseid meteor showers will light the nighttime skies of the Northern Hemisphere of this blue ball with streaks of fiery delight. … If we are lucky.

A friend and I will be going out this evening, and spending the night in the mountains. … I have not decided yet, how I will shoot them. … I think I will make a time lapse movie of full resolution still images. … That is, if it does not get to cold, or to boring just listening to the camera tick. …

The Heart of Vulcan

Ironwork has always fascinated me. Look at the concentration on this man. Although you cannot see his eyes, you can see that nothing else exists for him. … He is living in that point of electric arc that point of hot fusing metal. His entire body is focused on creation.

What a cool gig!

Big Bay Boom 2009

What are you doing today? This image is from last year. I will be trying from a different location this year. This image, and the images in the set it links to, were shot from Coronado Island.

I think I was a little too close to the action for the image I had seen in my head while I was waiting for the fireworks. So I have scouted a new location for this year.

We will see shat we shall see tomorrow.

I think I will bite your face. (Just a title)

I want to thank our friends for visiting us in Chula Vista while we were shooting a Customer Appreciation day for a Bank. We all had a good time, including customers, bank employees, dogs, and even the cats. 😉

You should check out this little gallery. … I think you will be entertained.

High Heels, the Piano, and the Ghost

This is an out-take of a shoot for the Snapshots Foundation.

I am starting to get a little excited becaus the Snapshots Foundation is about to actually be born. I honestly do not know all the people involved with the entire project, but Jonathan Bewley has been working for a while to bring it to fruition.

Vulcan Geothermal Plant Across the Salt Flats

I really like the contrasts of smooth waters and clear skys with their gently colored hues, against the manmade power lines, cooling towers, all the hard equipment of the Vulcan Geothermal Power Plant, and all its hard colors.

This is the second image of the Vulcan Geothermal Plant that I have published on my blog. Earlier in the day, I also shot a close up view of the right side of this plant. <-Link

The Santa Fe Train Station

I really like this image. I also like the vertical version. … I think they should be hanging side by side on some wall somewhere.

High places are wonderful! … I think I might start a project, shooting from all the buildings I can. Does anyone have any connections to other penthouse owners?

That sounds like a good thing to do. 😉

This is a link to the vertical version of this shot.

In the Green

I have a fun time with my niece when she chooses to go with me to the canyon to walk with my dog, Gypsy. We have a wonderful time down there. Gypsy chases lizards, never catches them, but she has fun. Lena runs ahead, then lags behind, continually looking, laughing, chattering away, having a great time. …

Me, I have a great time always. … But, I get to capture some images of the really good times.

Shadow of Myself

One time, when this tree was maintained, it lived, and was beautiful.

As time goes, the humans that tended this tree died, moved on, found other interests, and so the tree was left in the desert where it had been placed by men. It was left to die. And so it died.

One weekday, I had a hair to drive to Gila Bend and see an old motel. I found this tree, and reveled in its continued beauty. But, it is, indeed, a shadow of itself.

Fallbrook, Memorial Day Marine Corps Honors the Flag

My father was a Marine. I was a Marine. We lived the Marine Corps life from the time I was born.

After growing to adulthood in the Military, I know it is a life I wish for all mankind. You will actively be taught new things. You will be given responsibilities way beyond of those of your non military peers. You will learn to love and honor your friends, your family, and life generally. And, you will protect those things you honor.

Some people think that the military types want, and even enjoy, war. Nothing could be further from the truth. The people in the military are much closer to having a friend die. They know it every day. The only people that feel this as hard as the militaries, are their parents, husbands, and wives. They also understand why they do what they do.

They honor us all.
